Does anyone know the secret to getting a website listed in the major search engines?
Does anyone know the secret to getting a website listed on the first or second page in the major search engines?
I’v made a website, for selling products, with all the correct tags, like doc type, title, meta description, meta keywords, and lots of text on the main page containing good keywords, and links. I’ve submitted to Yahoo Search, Google, etc.
How do some people get hundreds of hits within hours of getting their website on the internet? Just two weeks ago their was a guy on Good Morning America saying that he had hundreds of hits within hours of making his website.
Within a week he was getting thousands of visitors. He was overwhelmed, but happy. What is the secret?
I can never get a good answer on this. How do people get their websites on the first or second page of search results so quickly?
Thank you for your help,
Darryl in Houston, TX

It’s called "Pay Per Click". You can sign a contract with Google or Yahoo so that you website will pop up at the top when someone does a search on "product" or "clothes" or whatever you are selling…
If someone clicks on the link to your website then you pay Yahoo somewhere in the range of $0.10-$3 per click. Some words are more expensive then others. For example, the word "free" is probably really expensive, but a random word like "planet" might be cheaper.
Hope this helps…

Well, you could use a bunch of tricks and tips and convoluted programming to DECEIVE the search engines.
But the BEST way is to get listed by providing the function that the services are intended for. Provide valuable content.
In other words, start collecting articles that relate in some way to the products you are selling, ideally with key words in the articles that relate to your product (Specifically, key words in sub-headings in the article, in any URLs — links — in the article, and in the URL). That, more than anything, will get you listed. The ultimate goal is to have articles so interesting that other web sites start linking to them. That will help your ranking in Google.
Note that you don’t have to write the articles yourself either. You can commission articles on a service like RentACoder. A typical rate might be something like $5 per article for a set of 5 articles, minimum of 500 words each.

There is only one person who knows this with 100% accuracy, that is the people who program the search engines and they will not tell you.
Search engines use sets of rules called algorithms to determine how they order their results.
The problem is these rules change regularly, as webmasters try to tweak their sites to get to the top, the search engines change the rules. Why? Because they want to deliver accurate results not the best optimised sites.
Search engine optimisation (SEO) is a multi million dollar industry that is based on nothing more than educated guesswork. Even if you get it right the results are temporary at best for the above reason.
Pay per click, I wouldn’t advise too much of that unless you have a large advertising budget, it can get expensive and can be open to click fraud.
My advice start by building a decent reciprocal links directory, and exchange QUALITY links with other sites. What constitutes a quality link? A visible one ie one that can be found by PEOPLE. You want people to visit your site right? So get your site in Front of people.
Reciprocal links are not affected by search engine algorithms and long term will do much more for your sites traffic.
Below is a link to an interesting free e-book that gives some excellent advice on linking and getting traffic to your site.
My advice is the same as most decent search engines give. Build your site for people not search engines and explore as many ethical ways as you can of bringing your visitors.
Even if you work out how to get to the top of a search engine the chances are the next time they change their algorithms (which is getting more and more regular) your site will be knocked off the top again. It really is a huge waste of your time.
Search engines are NOT the only way to bring people to your site.
Read the free ebook below it has some great common sense advice and some very indisputable logic.

It sounds like the guy on Good Morning America is probably paying for advertising in search engines and on websites. It is probably the only way to go if you have alot of competition, and want thousands of visitors.
Here are some things that might help that are free:
This site has great info on how to optimize your webpages for search engines http://www.searchbliss.com/seo-tools/search-engine-optimization.htm This is where I learned how to use my meta tags, keywords and content to get my website the best possible results.
You can improve your visibility on Google by making a sitemap https://www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps/login. Yahoo also uses sitemaps.
You can also improve your rankings by your link popularity. Try submitting your website to directories. Some that have been useful in improving my rankings are: http://www.limerex.com , http://www.tatet.com/ , http://www.slackalice.com/ , http://www.lookdirectory.com/
Also search for websites that have similar content as yours that are willing to trade links with you. Searchbliss has a neat tool called a backlinks finder that helps you find websites that you can submit your link to: http://www.searchbliss.com/seo-tools/back-links-finder.asp
Hope this helps, good luck!
