I’ve been thinking for some time of adding a message board to my GeoCities personal site (which is used mainly to display various digital creations I made and want to share) because the chat box I have right now is rather limited and difficult to take care of. However before I take action I want to be sure that a forum would serve its purpose and not just get ignored. I’m not concerned with constant activity, but I at least wouldn’t want it to just sit there empty. For those who have more experience with such things, roughly how much traffic and/or site content is ‘enough’ to make adding a forum worthwhile, or what methods and criteria could I use to effectively determine the breakpoint between ‘will stay empty’ and ‘will at least get occasional use’ and make sure I know when I’m on which side of it? Also, if trolls follow me from other sites and try to spam me, as they often seem to do, will that tend to increase traffic (due to making it look more active) or decrease it (due to making it look low-quality) and how can I best factor that effect into my decision?
