How to Make Your Page Search Engine Friendly and User Friendly

How to Make Your Page Search Engine Friendly and User Friendly

Every web publisher wants to attain top positions in the search engines to increase traffic. To attain a high ranking, your site has to be search engine friendly.

Search engine spiders index your web site. They only read the HTML code in your web pages. They don’t read graphics, JavaScript code and other scripts and features.

Just a few simple changes to your web pages can give your site a huge search engine boost. Even better, it can bring in ongoing FREE targeted traffic.

It’s important to create a search engine friendly site while at the same time keeping your site friendly to your visitors. You want to structure your pages for maximum search engine exposure without compromising the content or look of your site. After all, what good is traffic if your visitors won’t read your pages?

Keyword-rich, theme-based web sites will give you both targeted traffic and good search engine ranking.

Here are 10 easy steps you can take to make sure your pages are search engine friendly and user-friendly.

1. Selecting a domain name. There is a lot of disagreement about whether search bots give importance to the keywords in your domain name. I suggest that you select a domain name that indicates what your site is about. Even if it doesn’t matter to search engines, it’s important that it tells your visitors what the topic of your site is.

2. Focus on one theme. Search engines love specialized content. If you have several topics, then you should create several web sites. The more you focus on one topic, the more your page will be optimized for search engines and the more relevant it will be to your visitors.

3. Create multiple content pages. Make a separate page for each important keyword and key phrase. If, for example, you want your site to come up for the key phrases web consulting, web design, and search engine optimization, make three separate pages. Create a web page for each major keyword. Don’t create automated pages just to get search engine exposure. To keep visitors at your site, you have to give them good content. Keyword-rich articles are a good way to optimize your pages for search engines while providing useful content to your visitors.

4. Optimize each content page for ONE of your key phrases. Put your targeted key phrases in your content. Include them in your page title, description tag, ALT image tags, comment tags, and in internal and external links. When providing a title and description in the META tags, your listing may be displayed in the search engine listing as you provide it. Make your titles and descriptions informative and compelling to attract potential buyers to your site. Provide a benefit or solve a problem.

5. Put your keywords in your content. Search engines are looking at how often your keyword appears on a page. That’s how they determine relevancy. Short pages provide a larger percentage of keywords and are better for search engine optimization. The keyword density of a Web page is important for search engine optimization. How often you should mention your keyword throughout the text is different for each search engine, but it varies between 3% and 5% of your text. In other words, use your keyword 3-5 times for every 100 words on your page.

6. Naming files and directories. Put important keywords in all file names and directories/folder names describing the content. For example, to promote ebook covers, I name my files ebook-covers.html, cd-covers.html, box-cover.html, etc.

7. Naming graphics. The search bots don’t see your graphics but they can see the description of your graphics and navigation buttons in ALT tags (alternative text describing your images for visitors who browse your site with the images turned off). If your navigation links are images, I recommend that you provide text links in addition to the image links for search engine optimization.

8. Navigation. Have your main navigation links on your home page so search engines can follow your links and index your pages. This is just as important for your visitors as for the search engines.

9. Link your pages together. You can easily link to all your pages by creating a sitemap.

10. Directory structure. Put your important files in the first level. Subdirectories that lie deep are more difficult for search engines to scan. Creating a sitemap for large sites and providing a link to your sitemap on your home page is a good way to get all your important pages indexed.

Make it easy for search engines to index your site. Apply these simple tips, and you will be well on your way to having a search engine and user-friendly web site!

Website Marketing : Technology Developing At Breakneck Speed

Website Marketing : Technology Developing At Breakneck Speed

Technology for people working in website marketing is developing at “breakneck speed” one industry expert has said.

Leading business-to-business Serach engine optimisation specialist Rick Segal has claimed that the speed and expansiveness of technology advances in website marketing is what helps the sector to remain competitive.

Speaking at the Technology for Marketing & Advertising (TFM&A) event 2010, which took place recently in London, Mr Segal said it was innovation that kept people working in website promotion engaged.
“The great thing about a conference like this is just how much this year is brand new compared to last year and the year before,” he said, adding, “in this field, the pace of technology, the pace of innovation, is at a breakneck speed.”

Mr Segal said that the pace and breadth of improvements being offered by marketing technology providers engages and challenges marketers.

A recent survey by Alterian explored the extent to which businesses integrate marketing technologies across their organisation.

The survey revealed that 66 per cent of respondents planned to invest in social media marketing (SMM) in the next 12 months.

Over half said they were placing a ‘fair’ or ‘significant’ amount of effort on moving from a campaign-centric direct marketing model towards multi-channel customer engagement.

However, just over 40 per cent said they did not incorporate clickstream and web analytics data into their customer and email database.

Search engine optimisation specialist Nathan McDonald recently noted that an increasing number of people working in website promotion were beginning to wake up to the benefits of social media, particularly Twitter.

However, he stressed the importance of integrating social media campaigns with other website marketing ventures in order to maximise their potential.

10 Steps To Increase Profit With Web Site Promotion

10 Steps To Increase Profit With Web Site Promotion

Web Site promotion is supposed to be the main element of your web site marketing strategy. It is not sufficient just to design a gorgeous web site and place in on the Internet. Endorsing your web site has to be carried out continually if you desire to get an incessant flow of traffic to your web site. If you fail to draw traffic to your web site, all the effort and money that you put in creating your colorful pages of the web site are in vain. Also, before you go into detail on how to get traffic to your sites, you need to make sure that you complete following basic steps on your way to get the most out of your marketing campaigns:

1. The first step to successful web site promotion that gives a lot of profit is creating a successful web site promotion plan. Planning plays a vital role in web site promotion. They may employ bulk mailing as one of their endorsement approaches. This may bring you visitors but does not guarantee sales. It is important to get targeted visitors rather than just traffic to your web site.

3. The third step is to promote your web site with every possible strategy. Use of forums and email marketing has proved to be an important method of web site promotion.

4. The fourth step to successful web site promotion is writing articles and submitting them to various web sites. The resource box of the article can be helpful for web site promotion.

5. The fifth step to increase profit with web site promotion is to promote your web site continuously. You don’t need to work 8 hrs 7 days a week but reserve 1-2 hours EACH day for your marketing efforts. Intermittent promotion does not help to generate traffic.

6. The sixth step is to calculate your return on investment value from your promotion strategies. It is very important keep a track of the amount that you are willing to spend in web site promotion and the amount of money that you are profiting from your strategies. This will help you to avoid any kind of wastage on non-returning avenues.

7. The seventh step to make more money with web site promotion is properly analyzing your web site traffic. This will help you to find out whether the efforts that you are putting in to promote your web site are paying off or not. If not you need to change your strategies.

8. The eighth step is to keep a close on your industry and be prepared to make necessary changes from time to time so that you run according to the market changes. Make sure that the web site promotion tactics are not out dated and according to current marketing trends.

9. The ninth step is to monitor your web site in search engines. It is vital that you have a search engine optimized website and proper HTML standard so that you attain good ranking in results page.

10. The tenth step is to make use of all types of marketing methods to promote your web site, both on and offline. Do not forget the print media and other conventional methods to promote your web site.

Facebook Social Media Advertisers Increase 300% in a Year

Facebook Social Media Advertisers Increase 300% in a Year

The number of customers using Facebook’s online-advertising system has more than tripled in the past 12 months. This means that more and more small- and medium- sized businesses are now using Facebook as part of their online marketing strategy. Lots of local businesses are now finding success in this advertising model. Facebook launched its advertising program in 2007.

The ads, which appear on users’ Facebook profile pages (wall, info, photos etc.) allow 25 characters in the title and as many as 135 characters in the body of the text plus an optional photo. The targeting behind the ads is driven by the personal profiles of Facebook users. If you list The Simpsons as your favorite TV-show, you will probably see an ad from Foxtel sooner or later.

Wired’s Fred Vogelstein thinks that Facebook is poised to take over display advertising the way that Google has dominated search advertising. Internet users behave differently on Facebook than anywhere else online. Most of them use their real names, connect with their real friends, share their real thoughts, tastes and news. This is what makes Facebook audience so appealing to advertisers. You have real people with personal qualities who can be divided into exact consumer categories. Google, Yahoo and other search engines, on the other hand know little about of its users other than their search histories and some browsing activity.

Doubling its membership in March, Twitter is growing even faster than Facebook. As you might remember, at the end of last year, Facebook tried to buy Twitter for 0M but failed miserably. If Facebook had secured Twitter’s huge stake on the real time user generated information, they could have secured the dominant position in user generated live content. More and more Internet users are transferring their social habits to Twitter and Facebook from sites like Friendster and MySpace. In May this year, Facebook surpassed MySpace in the US, which was the last strong hold for the News Corp owned site. According Facebook’s chief operating officer, Sheryl Sandberg Facebook’s revenue may climb 70 percent this year. Also last month, Russia’s Digital Sky Technologies paid 0 million for less than 2 percent of Facebook, valuing the company at billion. Earlier Microsoft had secured a 1.6% stake for 0 million.

Facebook is based in Palo Alto, California. It was founded by Mark Zuckerberg in 2004. Wired is a monthly magazine published since March 1993. Wired reports on how technology affects culture, the economy, and politics. Owned by Condé Nast Publications, it is published in San Francisco, California.

Search Engine Marketing: Why is it so crucial?

Search Engine Marketing: Why is it so crucial?

There are many effective ways to promote your website and SEM is one of them. To improve the website ranking in the search engines, Search engine marketing or SEM is the most effective way. It also describes purchasing paid listings among other search engine related activities. Before, starting with an SEM campaign, knowing the concept and benefits of optimization is always very important and then employs techniques that will bring prospects to your site. Just as when getting browsers to enter your store in the real world, the goal is the same here, convert those visitors into customers.

Why Search Engine Marketing (SEM)?

In today’s Internet and World Wide Web, I’ve noticed that more consumers are turning to search engines to find the products and services and they seek.  If you are out to establish a strong base of customers and strengthen your bottom line, making friends with the search engines is the way to go. SEM is a proven technique that has worked wonderfully for business owners looking to increase their website visibility online through the SERPs. Using this effective method will increase your online visibility so that the consumers who are after your products and services will find you very easily. As the method include a great combination of various effective techniques.

In the past few years it has been seen that nearly 85% of website traffic is produced from the major search engines like Google, Yahoo & MSN. Due to these results, almost every online business owner is looking forward with optimization and marketing their websites for search engine traffic and to get most out of it. As we revealed earlier, SEM includes a wide variety of techniques and the most important of all is the optimization.

The most popular and similarly used methods of SEM are mention below:

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

The concept simply known as SEO, search engine optimization describes the act of creating web pages that appeal to the search engines.  In general, it includes building link popularity and highly important, implementing relative keywords potential visitors are most likely to type into a search engine. These relative targeted keywords are inserted into the body text of the web page as well as in Title tags and Meta tags. SEO can be so effective that other SEM techniques might not even be necessary. However, not every method is required for a successful SEM campaign; but without SEO you just can’t do it.

Pay Per Click (PPC)

There is also an alternative for the people who don’t have time to spend on doing SEO. Achieving high rankings in search engines is not so easy job, so those who don’t have time rely on Pay Per Click (PPC) campaigns for high profile placements. PPC is an SEM technique that focuses on targeted audiences and particularly, generating sales. This is the type of advertising where you pay a predetermined fee when an internet user either clicks or visits your ads.

The key to SEO and SEM in general, is to know how web surfers go about searching for products and services they are interested in. Very rare surfers use industry language to search products or services, so in order to attract them you need to think like your audience. This is the reason, why SEO specialists give more weight on the keyword research. Always remember that whether it’s genuine SEO, PPC or any other techniques, keywords are the key of a successful Search Engine Marketing (SEM).

Bursting forth from the Sandbox to top of the Google’s Rankings

Bursting forth from the Sandbox to top of the Google’s Rankings

For a considerably long period, Google happened to provide new sites with a temporary boost, known as “fresh boost” or “new site bonus.” But recently this search giant seems to have set a new trend in place for Search Engine Page Rankings (SEPRs). It was found that that Google SERPs of brand new sites turned out to be pretty pathetic after the initial glorious days at the top of the search rankings. This phenomenon is popularly referred to as Google’s Sandbox.

Google’s Sandbox is like a quicksand

Though “Sandbox” sounds pretty pleasant, it very much resembles a quicksand than a playground as suggested by its name to many web professionals.

When a new website is indexed in Google, it gets propelled to the top of the SERPs charts for a short yet glorious time, and then, slides downhill only to be buried deeply in the sand at Google. In other words, Google’s Sandbox is about a brand new website being placed on probation, or a hiatus or in a moratorium and kept lower than expected in searches, before being given full value for its incoming links and content.

How does it affect the website?

The Google’s Sandbox is said to be a filter placed on new websites to discourage spam sites from rising quickly, getting banned, and repeating the process. Websites in the Sandbox does not receive good rankings for its most important keywords and keyword phrases. The new website will be there in the result pages, but it does not rank well no matter how much original, well optimized the content is and how many quality inbound links the site does have.

Which sorts of websites are vulnerable to be mired in the Sandbox?

While all types of sites can be placed in the Sandbox barring a few exceptions. The problem appears grave for new websites seeking rankings for highly competitive keyword phrases. More competitive keyword driven Websites seeking rankings in highly competitive searches are likely to be in for a much longer duration.

How long does a site remain buried in the Sandbox?

Hiatus in the Sandbox varies from one to six months, with three to four months being the average stay time frame. It has been observed that less competitive searches are given the much shorter stay, whereas hyper-competitive keywords often get sojourn in the sand for six months. The most frequent time of burial is said to be about three months for most search terms.

What distinguishes sites trapped in sand and a Google’s penalty?

Sandbox is a Google-only event. Many folks while they see good rankings in Yahoo and MSN Search of their sites mistakenly believe that they have triggered a Google penalty. However this is generally not the case in point.

Sites penalized by Google do not appear in the Google search engine results pages for even the less important searches. Moreover, sites which have invited the wrath of Google show no page rank, and have a grey bar on the Google Toolbar. And none is true in case of sites mired in the Sandbox.

Google’s Sandbox: Letting website grow to its natural evolution

Google is looking ahead for Websites that offer quality content. It is an effort to prevent spammers from creating web sites that are just a flash in the pan, and to discourage the violation of Google’s Webmaster Guidelines which was not an exception in the past, to say the least.

Google’s Sandbox has deliberately been instituted to put a check on the use of throw away spam sites to build early traffic, and to slow down the purchase of expired domain names, among other things.

Google continues to strive that its ranking algorithm, inbound links, original content rich with keywords, and the use of anchor text are not tampered with for a short term gain severely affecting its credibility and quality standards. This stand is driven by the vision of Google that Website should grow gradually to its natural evolution.

Getting grounds before getting grounded in Sandbox

Getting grounded in the Sandbox is almost near-universal for sites. So, it is the best to be prepared for the eventuality. Planning ahead to be buried in the Sandbox may lessen the damage, using the time to your best advantage. To keep the Sandbox filter from causing severe harm to your online, and even your offline business, employ the following strategies:

The sojourn in the sand may be cut short to a degree by purchasing and sending live a website, before it is ready for prime time. Make it sure that you add as many incoming links as possible to get keep on adding content to your site. Do anything but increase your site’s appearance on the Interner Purchase and register a domain name and park it. By so doing, some of the sand time will be run through the Google hourglass, before your site is ready for launch. In the meantime, you can be preparing content when your site goes public Plan the time of your website launch to have the Sandbox time period passed off when your site needs high search engines rankings the most. Plan for entering the Sandbox by putting your site live at least three months earlier than expected. Rising from the moratorium: Key strategies that really works!

All your apprehension and concern apart, your stay in the Sandbox is simply an excellent opportunity to improve upon your site, and enrich it the way Google will never ever refute to accept in the top rankings. You can dig in the sand to carve out a niche in your site optimisation.

Here’s how you embark on…

Use the time in the quicksand to add incoming links to your website whilst you are in Sandbox. Better still, if you can employ a link exchange strategy right at this time. Reach out to useful directories as good sources of one-way links, additional Page Rank, and potential visitor traffic. Submitting to the various Internet directories, including The Open Directory Project, is quite advantageous in the long term Design and develop promotional and marketing strategies for your website to raise and maintain traffic levels during your hibernation in the sand. Building a community, or building strong inbound links through partnerships pays better off. If you establish traffic sources outside of search engines, you will see a welcome increase in your traffic levels once you get out of Sandbox. When you got trapped in Google’s sand, you may put aside a budget for an Adwords Program, i.e., Google’s pay per click advertising program. This will, of course, help you out in getting exposed and promoted on Google as well as many search and contextual partner sites Prefer not to discount traffic from other search engines such as Yahoo, Ask Jeeves and MSN, all of which do not seem to have any type of Sandbox. It may work pretty fine because sites that have well “on the page” search engine optimization do very well in these engines.

What do you need the most while in hiatus? Right Strategy Mix, Time and Patience

The Sandbox is not something you are eventually doomed to. It is not the ringing of death knell for your site either. It is not aimed to hold you back from succeeding.

Time and patience are your best friends while faced with this predicament providing that you execute the right strategy mix. You may not need to pull all the hair out of your head. Adding some powerful incoming links, with strong link anchor text, and adding relevant and rich keyword, and fresh content will help your site rise from the Sandbox, sooner than the later.
